Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye has contacted his colleague, Ayodele Fayose, an ex-governor Ekiti state, assuring fairness and equity in the forthcoming Southwest congress following an initial objection to his appointment as chairman of the screening committee of the exercise.
This was made known by the Ogun State Chairman of the party, Dr Sikirulai Ogundele in a statement issued on behalf of the Fayose-led caucus of the PDP on Friday.
Ogundele noted that their concerns about Melaye have been cleared and as such, their objection to his appointment withdrawn.
It would be recalled that the Southwest congress has been a major matter of dispute among chieftains within the zone. The group of PDP Southwest chieftains including Fayose, Ademola Adeleke, Eddy Olafeso and Ladi Adebutu had earlier same Friday kicked as Dino Melaye was named chairman over prior plans to have Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe in the position.
But Ogundele revealed that Fayose had spoken with Senator Dino Melaye on phone and he is convinced that the committee will do its job with a fair mind.
He said; “We write to withdraw our objection to the appointment of Senator Dino Melaye which was as a result of some misinformation.
“Our group leader, former Governor Fayose has personally spoken to him expressing confidence in his nomination.
“He remains one of the pillars of our party and we will cooperate with him and the party to make a success of the Southwest Zonal Congress,” Sikirulai said.
