Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Tuesday pushed forward the agenda for Babajide Sanwo-Olu taking over a second term in office as governor of Lagos State.
The Federal lawmaker, who represents Surulere Constituency said from all he has seen in Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu is doing well and as such, there would be no need to discontinue him from running for second term in office.
Gbajabiamila said this as he clarified in an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday that he doesn’t have an ambition to contest Lagos State governorship for now.
He was asked if he had any plan to become the Governor of Lagos State in the next election.
“That (question) provokes a smile.
“No, I don’t have any such plan; I have no immediate plan, I have a job that I am doing now, a very tough job, sometimes the most difficult job but people don’t understand.
“I don’t want distractions. I am working as the Speaker of the House of Representatives with a lot of responsibilities on my shoulders right now, any other thing will be a distraction,” his media aide, Gboyega Akosile quoted Gbajabiamila saying as he released the full transcript of the interview.
“The present Governor of Lagos State (Sanwo-Olu) is doing a good job. The fact that we had a one-term Governor at one time doesn’t mean it is going to be the same forever.
“This Governor is doing a good job under the current circumstances. It’s been a difficult time in his last two years and he has come out well. So, why should anyone upset the apple cart? I think he (Sanwo-Olu) is doing a good job.
“We’ll see what the future holds for everybody…we leave everything in the hands of the person that decides the future for everybody.”
The 59-year-old politician, however, affirmed his belief that the All Progressives Congress has all its takes to win the 2023 election.
“I think the APC has all it takes and will still do well in the next election,” he said.
