President Muhammadu Buhari is presently holding a National Security Council meeting with the new service chiefs.
Reports have it that this is the first time the new service chiefs would participate in the council’s meeting holding at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Top government officials present at the meeting include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; and the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.).
The Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amoo; and the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo are also present at the meeting.
Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu; Director General of the Department of State Service, Yusuf Bichi; Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Abubakar are participating at the security meeting.

Meanwhile, Dr Doyin Okupe, a former spokesman for two former Presidents (Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan) has declared that he would contest for the presidency in 2023 if Buhari fails to end insecurity in the country.
He lamented over the surge in banditry, kidnapping, criminal herdmen and Boko Haram terrorists.
The former presidential aide added, “I have been a very close aide of two great Presidents and have been close enough to power to know what can be done under these perplexing circumstances.”
