The governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello has boasted that in the space of six years, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved way more than the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ever did in its entire 16 years in power.
Speaking from his official residence at the Kogi State Government House in Lokoja during Tuesday’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Channels Television, Bello noted his party has delivered good g0vernace to the Nigerian people and as such.
He buttressed that his position can be backed up with statistics, which he said, are quite glaring.
“Largely, APC has performed beyond what PDP has achieved in their 16 years of governance in Nigeria,” Bello spoke from the Kogi State Government House in Lokoja.
“APC’s successes today within six years outweigh the successes of 16 years that they ruled. The statistics are there. We will remind Nigerians of where APC inherited Nigeria and where we are today,” he said.
APC took over power from the PDP which ruled since the return to civilian government in 1999 up until 2015.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who took over the baton of leadership, contested on the platform of the APC for his first term in 2015 and again his second term in 2019. He has spent nearly 6 years in office with two more to go.
This statement comes at a time when the country is battling heavily with insecurity in all forms and from all sides. Nigerians lament the grave situation and many condemn the presidency over poor handling of the matter while others even call for his resignation or impeachment.
Youths are also coming up to say enough of the APC adminsration.
But speaking further, Bello addressed the issue of insecurity, saying that banditry cannot be heaped on the Buhari government because it has been in existence before the president’s emergence.
However, he added that his party is doing its best in ending the menace of bandits’ activities.
He also urged Nigerians to collaborate in tackling the issue rather than politicizing the security challenges.
The governor reiterated his government’s commitment to flush out criminal elements in kogi state.
“I will reiterate that Kogi State is the safest state in Nigeria today. It doesn’t mean that there are no pockets of issues that we are grappling with.
“Like I always say, they will come in their numbers but they will never return back, especially the criminals. Yes, there are some notorious spots in the state.”
