The Port Harcourt zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said its operatives have arrested 11 suspects involved in illegal oil bunkering in Rivers State.
It was gathered that the suspects were arrested following intelligence obtained by the commission on their alleged involvement in illegal oil bunkering. However, the anti-graft agency also impounded three trucks loaded with a product suspected to be diesel and two other vehicles being used for the illicit activity.
The statement read in part, “Six of the suspects, Adinadu Chinonso, Chinedu Okoh, Paul Ejiofor, Christian Nweke, Nnaji Chidima, and Donatus Nnamani, were arrested on May 7, 2021, along the NPA Road, Port Harcourt.
“The remaining five suspects, Francis Ezeakalam, Uchenna Asiegbu, Uchenna Okah, Ibrahim Olapade, and Ndidi Akuneho, were arrested on May 9, 2021, at the same location.
“They were arrested based on verified intelligence obtained by the EFCC on their alleged involvement in illegal oil bunkering.
“Items recovered from them include three Mack trucks without number plates, one Volkswagen bus, and one Nissan car.
“The trucks were fully loaded with a product suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, while the remaining two vehicles were loaded with cellophane bags containing the same product.”
The commission added that the suspects would be charged as soon as investigation was concluded into the case.
