The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned popular comedian, Debo Adebayo also known as Mr Macaroni and other protesters before a mobile court.
Confirming the development, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said he would release an official statement concerning the arraignment.
He said, “He (Mr Macaroni) and others have been arraigned before a mobile court. I will release a statement on it shortly.”
The police arrested Mr Macaroni and other peaceful protesters on Saturday at the Lekki toll gate where they demanded justice for the victims of October 20, 2020 #EndSARS protest.
Recall that the Federal Government deployed the police and other security agencies to forestall the planned protest at the Lekki tollgate plaza in Lagos State.
Not less than 150 personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were deployed after the FG and state government ordered youths to shelve the protest. However, the youths insisted on expressing their displeasure over the planned reopening of the Lekki tollgate.
Meanwhile, Human rights lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), on Saturday, threatened to quit the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry following the inhumane treatment of peaceful protesters at Lekki toll plaza on Saturday.
This is barely 24 hours after Rinu Oduala, a youth representative pulled out of the same panel.
Speaking on the development, Adegboruwa said he was “saddened and devastated” by the actions of the security agencies, adding that the panel has not yet resolved the events of October 20, 2020 while another atrocity is being committed.”
