Popular comedian, Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr Macaroni and 39 other arrested peaceful protesters have been granted bail, according to reports.
According to a statement by the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday evening, the protesters were arrested for behaving in manners that could cause a breach of public peace.
They were arraigned at the mobile court in Panti, Yaba but the court released them on bail. Additionally, the court directed them to appear on March 2, 2021 with certificate of coronavirus test.
He said, “The command has arrested forty (40) suspects at Lekki Toll Gate plaza, Lagos State, on Saturday 13th February, 2021, for conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of peace and violation of COVID-19 protocols.
“The command therefore assured the general public that it will always discharge its statutory duties as expected within the ambit of the law, while appealing to Lagosians to be law-abiding and go about their lawful businesses.”
However, the inhumane treatment of peaceful protesters at the Lekki tollgate on Saturday, has generated several condemnation across the world.
Meanwhile, human rights lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) has threatened to quit the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry following the inhumane treatment of peaceful protesters at Lekki toll plaza on Saturday.
This is barely 24 hours after Rinu Oduala, a youth representative pulled out of the same panel.
