The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos Command has arrested some oil thieves at Baruwa town, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Disclosing the news, the NSCDC Lagos Commandant, Mr Paul Ayeni explained that the Command received a distress call around 1am on Saturday, leading to the arrest of two members of a gang involved in bunkering of Premium Motor Spirit.
The Command identified the arrested gang members as Francis Ogbechie, 31, of No 3 Bless-Jar, Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Lagos State and a native of Isele-uku, Aniocha North LGA of Delta while the second suspect is Pius Uchenna, 32, who lives at No. 3, Bori Street, Cele Village, Egbeda, Lagos State, a native of Agbor, Ika South LGA of Delta.”
Speaking further, the Lagos NSCDC boss disclosed that the syndicate brought four trucks into the creek to convey PMS.
A statement released by Ayeni partly reads, “However, on citing our men, about 40 bunkers jumped out of the creek and pounced on our men.
“The NSCDC personnel wrestled with them and a truck loaded with 60 litres of PMS was seized, while three empty trucks sped away.
“The driver of the seized truck destroyed its brakes in an attempt to deceive our men but to no avail.”
The statement added that the two suspects have been detained while NSCDC personnel have started investigating the incident.
Ayeni lamented that the oil thieves were contributing to the problems in Nigeria, adding that the Federal Government would not hesitate to prosecute anyone found damaging national assets.
