A Nigerian man, simply identified as Dele, has reportedly committed suicide after battling with depression for seven years, according to a note he allegedly wrote before his death.
On Tuesday, his picture filled the social media with different persons urging security agencies to help locate him. According to various posts, he was last seen at Omole Phase 2 area of Lagos State while his last known location was Third Mainland Bridge.
However, the story took a new turn on Wednesday when #RIPDele started trending on twitter. According to yet-to-be-confirmed reports, Dele allegedly committed suicide as his body was later found on Wednesday.
Reacting to the development, Nigerians took to Twitter to share their opinion about depression and the need to check on people regardless of their status.
@shank_comics, tweeted, “This is sad. Anything you are going through. Please, don’t Take your own life. RIP Dele.”
@ChumaNnoli wrote, “Going through the RIP Dele trend & seeing people preaching be kind to others. If only we practised what we say after these suicides occur. A few days after, the same people showing sympathy today would be trolling someone else to depression if such person shares their struggles.”
@lollypeezle tweeted, “At this point, it is not about telling people to speak up alone, it is also about checking up on people intentionally. If you notice any depressive sign in anyone, try your best to know what’s up. Everything is not money money, some people need listening ears. RIP Dele.”
