Gunmen have kidnapped the Obadu of Ilemeso Ekiti in the Oye Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba David Oyewumi.

Numbering about six, the bandits unleashed terror on the palace on Thursday evening when they gained access into the palace around 8:30pm.

This is barely six days after some gunmen accosted and shot the Elewu of Ewu Ekiti in the Ilejemeje Council Area of the state, Oba Adetutu Ajayi.

Sources disclosed that the gunmen scaled the fence and shoot sporadically in the air on arrival.

A source said, “In the process of shooting, they gained entrance into the bungalow where the traditional ruler and members of his family were.

“The way they asked for the monarch showed that they really came for him and not any other person. Immediately they sighted him, they dragged him out of the palace and whisked him away.”

Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu said the police have started trailing the attackers, adding that the monarch would return safely.

He said, “Yes, it happened yesterday (Thursday) in his palace.

“Meanwhile, necessary steps are being taken to rescue him and apprehend the culprits. We are on the trail of the abductors.”

In a related development, not less than eight gunmen stormed a petrol station at Isan Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State recently and went away with the station manager, Mr Itakorodo Adebayo.
