A Katsina senior magistrate court on Tuesday ordered the remand of two men, Saadu Haruna and Musa Ibrahim, in a correctional facility until April 1, 2021, over their alleged knowledge of a bandit attack, which led to the death of three men.
The two men, who are 40-years-old respectively, are residents of Dantankari village, Dandume Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, unknown gunmen invaded Dantankari village on December 25, 2020, killing three persons identified as Abdulmutallib Ibrahim, Muhammadu Isyaku and Sani Ibrahim.
They also kidnapped seven people including Abdullahi Hayatu, Sani Iliya, Yunusa Soja, Alhaji Dahiru Mahangi, Dan Bayero, Hajizu Nasir and Umar Shaaibu, who are yet to regain freedom.
However, in the course of investigation, the Divisional Police Officer of Dandume arrested Haruna and Ibrahim as villagers overheard them discussing the imminent attack even before it happened.
The two men also allegedly mention the names of those who would be kidnapped during the attack.
Consequently, the police charged the duo with criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping and belonging to the gang of brigandage which violate sections 59,189,243, (2) and 280 punishable under section 204 of Katsina state penal code law, 2019.
Speaking in court, the police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello disclosed that the police was still probing the incident and he prayed the court to grant another date for mention.
The presiding senior magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko granted the prayer and adjourned the case until April 1, 2021, for mention, adding that the two men should be remanded at the Katsina correctional centre.
