Not less than 25 persons were arrested when the Federal Capital Territory Administration pulled down five local wresting and drama centers popularly known as ‘Gidan Drama’ and ‘Gidan Dembe.’
According to reports, the FCT Ministerial Enforcement Taskforce carried out the demolition exercise at Dakibiyu, Gwarimpa 1 and Sector Centre districts.
Speaking on the development, the Head, Media, Public Enlightenment and Advocacy of the Taskforce, Ikharo Attah, explained that the taskforce demolished the structures, as they constituted nuisance in the environment, adding that many people gather to watch the performances without observing safety protocols.
He added, “Thousands of persons gather at these local entertainment centres to watch artistes and wrestlers perform. In one of the centres, we observed during surveillance that thousands gather to watch nude dancers. Facemasks, physical distancing and sanitizing of the hands do not exist here at all.”
Recall that the FCTA earlier pulled down illegal structures including brothels and makeshift houses in Daki biyu community, Jabi District, Abuja.
The Director, Development Control Department, Muktar Galadima, led a team to demolish the houses due to the alarming rate of insecurity in the FCT.
According to Galadima, the operation was in line with the 13-point Next Level mandate of the FCT Administration.
He disclosed that the plots of land would be used for certain purposes as the administration wanted orderliness and sanitation in the FCT.
