The cohorts of the present political administration of President Muhammadu Buhari are a special breed and one we could rightly call the “House of commotion”.
Although political contestation is part of the game, 2020, a year we cannot forget in a hurry, has graced rather too many. Politicians served us hot back to back like never before and definitely, there would be more to come.
Among some of the top hottest political intrigues making our list for the year 2020 are;
1. Abike Dabiri Vs Isa Pantami Dirty Fight
This duo publicly dragged their dirty linen before Nigerians over office space earlier this year in May. The fight was so intense that they both exchanged brutal words online and rapidly took over the headlines. The Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Dabiri accused the Minister of Communications, Isa Pantami of instigating the National Communications Commission against giving her agency, (NIDCOM) an office space. However, Pantami denied and called out Dabiri for telling “a fat lie”. It dragged on and on for
2. Kashamu Vs Adebutu
As shameful as this is, it had started in 2019 but spilled into its climax this year and we do not know when we would see the last of it. The political personalities in Ogun state have been fighting for political supremacy in the state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party. Buruji Kashamu is a former Senator who allegedly instigated the removal of the state chairman, Adedayo Adebutu for non-reconciliation reasons while the latter is saying the former aided his removal because he failed to swindle the party members to give him money.
3. Aisha Buhari and ‘Tunde’ Yusuf Shaibu
This was definitely dirty. The first lady has been a terror to the camp of Aso Rock alleged controllers even before now but she went ready to bust anyone this year and even included her children in the fight. The fight led to the carrying of arms and blasting gunshots into the air in broad daylight. We can’t forget this in a hurry.
4. Nunieh Vs Akpabio
This one is still very fresh and ongoing. The NDDC has brought us scorn and shameless as those involved are, they are busting one another. The brutal war between the duo is uncontainable as it got so fierce that Governor Wike, who is a political enemy of the minister, got involved. While Nunieh has accused the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, abuse of office, hijacking forensic audit ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari, Akpabio has accused the ex-MD of insubordination, certificate forgery which allegedly led to her sack from the commission and lastly, marrying multiple husbands.
5. Magu Vs Malami
Although this started in 2019, the main battle began 2020. With the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami listing 22 sins of the Ibrahim Magu as EFCC boss, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the former’s suspension and began an intense secret investigation of the embattled anti-graft czar for 10 days. Many believe this is Magu paying for the sins of his political godfather, late Abba kyari. Meanwhile, Malami is now facing a series of allegations too probably sponsored by lovers of Magu, who knows?
6. Akeredolu Vs Ajayi
This here is one hell of a fight. The deputy governor defected to the PDP after being locked in the state Government House by the Ondo state Commissioner of Police who allegedly acted on orders of the governor. Akeredolu earlier accused Ajayi of corruption and the accused took it personally and started plotting ways to contest the governorship elections.
7. Obaseki Vs Oshiomhole
This fight has been the most intriguing and most protracted so far this year. It started way back 3-2 years ago but the battle line was drawn earlier this year and it has unfolded the unexpected. Basically, it is a struggle for supremacy in Edo state. Both have sworn to fight till the last drop of their blood.
8. NASS Vs Keyamo
This is a very interesting one. Both parties got locked in heated arguments during scrutiny of the 774, 000 proposed jobs for Nigerians across the federation. While the assembly accuses the minister of hijacking the processes and suspends him from moving on with the project, Keyamo insists that he has the backing of the President and would, therefore, move ahead with the programme regardless.
