10 Ways to Keep Your Kids Safe Amidst Coronavirus Crisis

Children are gifts from God and as such, we are meant to keep them safe at all times. It no news that the world is currently experiencing a deadly outbreak, which is covid-19 well known as coronavirus.

Amidst the global panic and fears as regards the alarming death rate and cases which is over 2000 globally, we need to ensure our kids are kept safe amidst this crisis.

Below are 10 ways to keep your children safe amidst coronavirus crisis

  1. Teach Them to Wash Their Hands Frequently

Like the saying health is wealth, encourage your kids to wash their hands frequently. This is to keep their hands’ germ-free. Kids are fond of touching things, putting their hands in their mouth and playing with whatever they see. Hence, there is the need to teach them to practice good hygiene; by washing their hands with enough soap for about 20 seconds according to World Health Organisation guidelines.

  1. Teach Them to Cover Mouth and Nose Appropriately When Coughing

So many kids are well informed that while coughing they should inculcate the habit of covering their mouths. The issue is they actually at times do not do it the proper way. The proper way is to cough in a tissue paper and trash in the bin immediately after single usage or cough at the inner side of their elbow. This is to ensure they don’t cough in their hands and spread it on surfaces or things they touch. This to an extent would reduce the spread of germs.

  1. Clean and Disinfect Surfaces and Environment

Keeping the environment clean would ensure a safe environment. Parents or guardians should ensure the surfaces like; tables, door handles, sink, chairs and many more are well cleaned with disinfectant and the floors are well mopped. This is essential for crawling babies and kids fond of dropping things. This as such would ensure their safety.

  1. Wash Their Toys

As we all know kids are fond of putting things in their mouth, and most of the time they are with their toys. Parents should try to inculcate the habit of washing their children’s toys with soap and disinfectant.

  1. Practice social distancing

Kids might find this very hard. But to keep them in the know-how of how their friends are faring, parents could also go digital by having face time with friends and loved ones virtually. This could be through WhatsApp video call or skype or any other form of video calling.

  1. Ask Questions

Asking your children questions would make them feel loved and in return, they would feel free to talk to you and tell you more than you asked for. To do this, ask clarifying and simple questions like; Do you know what coronavirus is? How do you think you can avoid the spread of coronavirus?

  1. Eat Healthily

Like the saying an apple per day keeps, the doctor away. Ensure you feed your kids with healthy foods. Try to abstain from eating fast foods and junks. This is the time to cultivate the habit of consuming fruits, vegetables and home-cooked meals.

  1. Present your self as a source of information To Your Kids

It is understandable that children are very inquisitive and they can bore you with lots of questions. Nevertheless, do not disregard any of their questions. Keep yourself informed so you can be a trustworthy source. Keep your information short, simple and useful so as not to confuse your kids. Try to be compassionate while answering their questions. This is because kids know a lot and most of the time, they ask questions for validation and to feel loved. So, keep them closer, have time for them and answer their questions.

  1. Ensure They Sleep Well

Sleeping is not just good for the body; it keeps the body refreshed and agile. Encourage your kids to take naps especially after running around. It helps to improve their mental and physical health.

  1. Stay Calm
