Prince Harry of the United Kingdom would give up his honorary military appointments and patronages after telling Queen Elizabeth II that he and his wife, Meghan Markle, would not continue working as royals.
According to the Buckingham Palace on Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would lose their honours if they stop being working royals.
Recall that the couple abandoned their frontline royal duties a year ago as they started some businesses in the United States where they currently live.
In early 2020 when the couple first made their decision known, an emergency summit was organized with the queen while Harry promised to review his decision after a year.
However, a statement by the Buckingham Palace read, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family.
“The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.
“The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family.”
