Following the recent clash by supporters of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and a former governor of the State, Rochas Okorocha, the Peoples Democratic Party has condemned both leaders.
Describing the recent clash as “disgusting,” the party blamed Okorocha and Uzodinma for turning the state into a war zone.
A statement by the PDP spokesperson in the state, Ogubundu Nwadike, said the recent clash has left residents in tension and fear of reprisal attacks.
Part of the statement read, “The recent violence perpetrated by supporters of Senator Rochas Okorocha and Governor Hope Uzodimma has stirred up tension and apprehension in the state thereby toppling the atmosphere of saturated peace and tranquility.
“It is most disheartening that our dear state has become a laughing stock and object of mockery and caricature due to the present psychopathic leadership which is creating unnecessary tension and also mortgaging the peace of the state.”
The Imo State Police Command earlier confirmed the release of Okorocha following his arrest on Sunday.
According to the spokesperson for the state police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, the former governor was “invited for questioning” over the unsealing the Spring Palm Hotel linked to his wife, Nkechi.
Reports have it that the police arrested Okorocha after he allegedly unsealed the hotel which was closed down by the commissioner for lands and physical planning on behalf of the Imo State Government.
The commissioner explained that the hotel was allegedly built with taxpayers’ money instead of his wife’s funds.
