Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has raised the alarm that some persons are benefitting from the current surge in insecurity across the nation.
Speaking on Tuesday after confirming the new service chiefs, Lawan urged the new military leaders to stop the ugly trend.
The newly confirmed service chiefs include Maj. Gen. Lucky Eluonye Onyenuchea lrabor as Chief of Defence Staff; Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru (Chief of Army Staff); Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, (Chief of Naval Staff); and Air Vice Marshal Isiaka O. Amao as Chief of Air staff.
Lawan said, “Kidnapping without a trace, is not acceptable. Something has to be done because, apparently, this is becoming an industry, some people are benefiting from this and we have to unravel who these people are, and fight bandits and insurgents until we rescue our country.
“Let me also advise the service chiefs that there must be an interagency corporation.”
President Muhammadu Buhari earlier held a National Security Council meeting with the new service chiefs.
Reports have it that this is the first time the new service chiefs would participate in the council’s meeting holding at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Top government officials present at the meeting include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; and the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.).
